Kanye West: Do you still view the rapper the same?

Posted in Urban News with tags , , , , on September 18, 2009 by kinguvdastreet

Kanye West has become an object of ridicule in American showbiz following the rapper’s infamous stage-storming episode during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York on Sunday night.

Kanye West Onstage Episode on Taylor Swift

Even President Obama did not spare him saying: “I thought that was really inappropriate,” and adding, “He’s a jackass”. The audio was recorded just before Obama went on camera to do an interview with CNBC on Monday night.

The rappers stage-crashing appearance has made the Internet explode with tweets, blog rants and at least one video mash-up. Though West has repeatedly apologized (and finally called Swift himself, seemingly putting the beef to bed), the Web still hasn’t forgiven him, and no one seems to be letting him off the hook that easily.

What did you think of Kanye West’s interruption of Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards? Do you still view the rapper the same?

PITSTOP

Miami rapper Pitbull is being sued by an Australian promoter for allegedly no-showing a 2008 tour. The suit was filed last week by Suave Productions, and the rapper was served with a Statement of Claim. The company states that Pitbull (Christian Perez) skipped the event despite receiving half of his concert fee upfront. According to Suave Productions representative Jamie Fernandez, Pitbull’s actions were a blatant violation of their signed business agreement. “It’s unfortunate that it had to come to this. I am a huge Pitbull fan. I’ve always been the first person in Perth to play his music, but justice must be done,” Fernandez told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “He can say whatever he wants about why he did not get on the plane but we would rather leave it up to the courts to decide who failed to fulfill their end of the contract.” Furthermore, Suave Productions sees Pitbull’s actions as a slap in the face, claiming they made every reasonable accommodation possible for the proposed international date. “We did everything we could to make him happy, sometimes even going that extra mile in order to meet his demands,” Fernandez explained. “But yet he still refused to get on the plane. Not only that, he also failed to notify that he wasn’t coming and also kept half the money for doing nothing at all. “A court date is pending for the lawsuit. Pitbull is scheduled to release his fourth studio album, Rebelution, on September 1. It features appearances from Lil Jon, Slim of 112, Akon, and B.o.B. At press time, the Miami emcee could not be reached for comment.

Will Barack Obama’s Inauguration Speech Live Up To High Expectations?

Posted in Urban News with tags , , , , , , , on January 16, 2009 by kinguvdastreet

Inaugural ceremony takes place on January 20, 2009

On Tuesday January 20, 2009 history will once again be made in Washington D.C. like never before. The soon to be first African American President Barack Obama will be sworn in as President of the United States of America. A competitor by nature, Obama will be stepping into the ring with history itself – squaring off against not only the public’s expectations for a voice-of-God moment, but also against the addresses that came before his. At the end of the Civil War, Lincoln spoke of unity. With the nation in an economic depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to restore confidence. Feeding a renewed American spirit, John F. Kennedy ushered in the baby boom generation. One can only expect that Obama’s speech this Tuesday will be something similar that will attempt to instill confidence in the America people of better days to come.

Facing a global economic crisis, two wars and some of the highest expectations for a presidency in decades, Obama faces pressure in this one speech that is enough to make even the supremely confident own up to some serious nerves. The speech is expected to draw more than a million people to the National Mall and a huge World Wide TV viewing audience.  Can Obama pull it off? Judging by Obama’s track record, this Tuesday we may possibly hear one of the greatest speeches of all time.

This Friday January 16 is the highly anticipated movie Notorious BIG that is a drama about the tragic life and death story of the late great rapper Christopher Wallace. Notorious BIG is portrayed by Jamal Woolard with Angela Bassett, Derek Luke, and Anthony Mackie filling out the supporting cast. Directed by George Tillman Jr. (Soul Food) and executive producer Sean “Diddy” Combs, it’s a story about how Notorious BIG started out in Brooklyn as a crack dealer and rose up out of the slums to become a famous rapper until his death after a party in L.A 1997. There is news about the involvement of the suspects in his death having something to do with one lapd corrupted police officer and details between rival East Coast and West Coast rappers. What is interesting is that the police from the lapd are also members of the East Coast or West Coast crew. The movie attempts to seek and explore the truth about the case of his death.

If you plan on going to see the movie hit us back and let us know what you thought about it.

Ann Coulter Blasts Obama?

Posted in Urban News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 5, 2009 by kinguvdastreet

Ann Coulter an American political commentator, syndicated columnist, and best-selling author known for her controversial and confrontational style, has made some controversial comments about our soon to be First Lady Mrs. Michelle Obama that is sure to stir up some sh!&.

In her latest book, Guilty: Liberal Victims and their Assault on America, Coulter blasts Mrs. Obama’s dress sense as well as the way she wears her hair by calling her a Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis wannabe and an imitator of the late first lady.

Coulter refers to Michelle Obama as a “saint” and “Mother Teresa” and suggests that her public service career “advanced in lockstep with the political advancement of her husband.” Coulter also wrote “Her obvious imitation of Jackie O’s style – the flipped-under hair, the sleeveless A-line dresses, the short strands of fake pearls – would have been laughable if done by anyone other than a media-designated saint.”

On the flip side of things,

Coulter has nothing but praise for Obama’s former rival, Cindy McCain: Saying that Cindy McCain, the wife of vanquished GOP nominee John McCain, “dressed well without freakishly imitating famous First Ladies in history.”

Now aint that some sh#$!

Posted in Urban News with tags , , , , , on April 13, 2008 by kinguvdastreet

Undefeated welterweight Miguel Cotto defeated Alfonso Gomez in Atlantic City yesterday with a dominating performance that demonstrated that he is definatley  one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

It was a mismatch as expedcted, Gomez, who is best known for having appeared on the first season of The Contender, really had no chance of beating Cotto. It wasn’t much of a fight, and the ringside doctor brought it to an end after the fifth round. The 27-year-old Boriqua Cotto whos hometown is Caguas, Puerto Rico improves his record to a perfect 32-0, with 26 knockouts. With every punch  Cotto seems designed to do damage and is quickly becoming one of the best Latin boxers we have seen.

The Latin Struggle

The Latin Struggle

Hispanics have the nation’s largest minority group

The Latino population grew to 37 million in July 2001, up 4.7 percent from April 2000. The black population increased 2 percent during the same period, to 36.1 million. Reports estimate that their has been a 44% increase in the Hispanic population between 1990 and the year 2000 and with the next Census in 2010 the number of Latinos in the U.S. is expected to boom. Coinciding with that, there has been an increase with the number of Hispanics going to college. But that increase only increased slightly when compared to non-Hispanic whites and African American. Most Hispanic students face geographical and cultural barriers and also have below average incomes.

Along with this is also the concern to all Latino communities: the explosion of the number of Latinos in prison.

There were 55,000 Latinos doing prison time in the United States in 1985. That figure has increased by more than 400 percent in 20 years, a substantially steeper rate of increase than for whites or blacks. Currently, there are more than 450,000 Latinos in U.S. prisons or jails.

What does this mean?

In the upcoming decades Hispanic Latinos will be a key element in the economic and social development in the United States.

Are you prepared for the latin boom?
