Kanye West: Do you still view the rapper the same?

Kanye West has become an object of ridicule in American showbiz following the rapper’s infamous stage-storming episode during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York on Sunday night.

Even President Obama did not spare him saying: “I thought that was really inappropriate,” and adding, “He’s a jackass”. The audio was recorded just before Obama went on camera to do an interview with CNBC on Monday night.

The rappers stage-crashing appearance has made the Internet explode with tweets, blog rants and at least one video mash-up. Though West has repeatedly apologized (and finally called Swift himself, seemingly putting the beef to bed), the Web still hasn’t forgiven him, and no one seems to be letting him off the hook that easily.

What did you think of Kanye West’s interruption of Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards? Do you still view the rapper the same?

PITSTOP

Miami rapper Pitbull is being sued by an Australian promoter for allegedly no-showing a 2008 tour. The suit was filed last week by Suave Productions, and the rapper was served with a Statement of Claim. The company states that Pitbull (Christian Perez) skipped the event despite receiving half of his concert fee upfront. According to Suave Productions representative Jamie Fernandez, Pitbull’s actions were a blatant violation of their signed business agreement. “It’s unfortunate that it had to come to this. I am a huge Pitbull fan. I’ve always been the first person in Perth to play his music, but justice must be done,” Fernandez told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “He can say whatever he wants about why he did not get on the plane but we would rather leave it up to the courts to decide who failed to fulfill their end of the contract.” Furthermore, Suave Productions sees Pitbull’s actions as a slap in the face, claiming they made every reasonable accommodation possible for the proposed international date. “We did everything we could to make him happy, sometimes even going that extra mile in order to meet his demands,” Fernandez explained. “But yet he still refused to get on the plane. Not only that, he also failed to notify that he wasn’t coming and also kept half the money for doing nothing at all. “A court date is pending for the lawsuit. Pitbull is scheduled to release his fourth studio album, Rebelution, on September 1. It features appearances from Lil Jon, Slim of 112, Akon, and B.o.B. At press time, the Miami emcee could not be reached for comment.

Shop Smart

ShopSmart

Shopping for clothes on a budget doesn’t always have to be impossible. All too often we shop on impulse and spend, spend, spend! With a little patience and planning, smart shopping will help you save money. Follow these four steps to make sure your next shopping outing doesn’t break the bank and leave you wondering “What happened to all my $$$$?”

1. Be prepared and shop with a plan:

Before heading out or going online, take a moment to check your closet and make a mental note of what you really need. Be patient and take your time. If you know what you need, you will get a lot more from what you buy. You should buy clothes of high quality that will last. After all, this is your hard earned money we’re talking about!

2. Set a budget.

Knowing how much you can realistically spend ahead of time will help you save a lot. Shop smart and only buy what you need. Remember that you’re in control and you can always come back later to get that other item.

3. Start early.

For special occasions allow yourself at least two weeks prior to the event. This will allow you to take your time and buy the item that you want. Also, if you don’t find what your looking for the first time out, you will still have time to shop around and find that perfect fit at the right price.

4. Shop by yourself.

If you really need a second opinion, put the item on hold and bring someone back with you later.

These shopping tips should help you fill your closet without breaking the bank.

Wash

Clothes Care Tips

Knowing proper clothes care can maximize the lifespan of your clothes. It can also save you from spending money buying new ones and save you time from unnecessary time-consuming laundry and stain removal procedures.

Water Temperature

The right water temperature when washing your clothes offers a great deal of protection on your clothes. The water temperature allows you to wash your clothes effectively without having to compensate its fabric condition. Below are some tips on when to use different water temperatures when washing your clothes.

Hot Water

Hot water cleans better than tap water. Hot water helps eliminate stubborn stains faster and can significantly reduce germs in your fabric. White clothes washed in high temperature water actually display better result than any other water temperature.

The downside of hot water is that it fades, wrinkle, and even sometimes shrink certain types of fabric.

Warm Water

Warm water is the most popular water temperature used in washing clothes. Some machines can automatically mix equal amounts of hot and cold water to achieve warm water temperature. Warm water temperature can clean almost as well as water without reducing the size of your clothes or fading it. This water temperature is very suitable for denim type of clothes.

Cold Water

Delicate types of clothes are mostly washed in cold water. Unlike hot and warm water temperature, cold water takes time to thoroughly clean stains and dirt, which may require you to soak stained clothes first before resuming to the actual washing procedures.

Choosing the Right Water Temperature

1. Check the clothes tags or labels. Most clothes include a tag of washing instructions together with the clothes label. This is the best way to determine which water temperature is best for your clothes and what steps are necessary to get the best washing results. It is best to separate clothes that require special washing instructions, which would help remind you how to wash them.

2. Determine the temperature of your water using a thermometer. The ideal cold-water temperature is 26.7 to 15 degrees Celsius. Water colder than this temperature has minimal cleaning ability. Water is considered hot at 54.4 degrees Celsius and warm at 43.3 to 32.2 degrees Celsius.

3. Pre-treat stains to avoid permanent damage on the clothes. Pre-treated stains have better chance of wearing off and save you from repetitive washing that can eventually damage your clothes.

4. Clothes that require cold water for washing must be soaked first to get a satisfying washing result.

Stain Removal Tips

Removing stains from your clothes requires a combination of many different factors such as stain removers, water temperature, and stain removal methods. Deciding which stain treatment is best for your clothes depends on the nature of the stain. Below are some stain classification and treatment tips.

Protein-based stains

Protein-based stains are dairy products, formula milk, blood, mud, baby food and eggs. Rid of the solid particles or flakes on the stain first. It is important not to use hot water on this type of stain. Hot water can aggravate protein stains on your clothes. It is best to use cool water when washing this type of stain. It may take several applications of stain remover before you can take it all off.

 Dye-based stains

Inks, grass, mustard, and fruits are the usual cause of dye-based stains. This type of stain easily grows on your shirt but can also be removed fast if treated immediately. However, if the stain is already set, several soaking treatments may be required. Hot water works best on this type of stain.

 Tannin-based stains

Tannin-based stains are from coffee, tea, fruit juice, soft drinks, and the like. It is easy to remove this type of stain while it is still fresh. You may wash the stained clothe in a cold water and rinse it with hot water. Dried tannin-based stain is a different story as it requires intensive stain removal treatment and may even leave greater damage when washed with a bar soap. Special Thanks – Bob Dylans

Fashion at Work. When Casual Goes Too Far

Posted in Fashion with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 3, 2009 by kinguvdastreet

Dragging your butt out of bed when the alarm goes off is hard enough, let alone putting serious thought into what you’re wearing to work. But if you care about your career, you do your best. As much as we wish it weren’t true, wearing the wrong thing to work sends the wrong message to co-workers and superiors. You can pretty much eliminate what NOT to wear by simply covering appropriately, dressing with care and following some simple rules.

So what NOT to wear to work?

EVERYONE PLEASE DO NOT WEAR…

1. Gym Clothes

Sweats, shorts, and tennis shoes have their place, but it usually isn’t at work — unless, of course, you work at a gym or in the fitness industry.

2. Club Clothes

Sequins, sparkles, and other cocktail attire all qualifies as after-five apparel. So don’t wear them to your day job — EVEN if you’ll be hitting the club scene after hours.

3. Plunging Necklines

Ever try to hold an intelligent conversation with a man when you’re wearing a plunging neckline? You can’t – he’s too busy sneaking peeks at your cleavage. Which is why, if you want to be taken seriously in business, you should not wear revealing necklines to work.

4. Midriff Tops

Unless you work as a belly dancer, no one at work should see your navel. Keep your belly covered and focus attention elsewhere – like to your talents, brains, and savvy.

5. Super Low Rise Pants

Like midriff tops, super low rise pants show too much skin and create a distraction. Opt for more modest styles to be taken more seriously at work.

6. Micro Minis

Since it’s all about covering up for credibility, you need to save your micro minis for after hours — unless, of course, you work as a cheerleader for a professional sports team.

7. Flip Flops

Flip-flops. Don’t burn rubber all over the place. Those comfy rubber thongs that give our feet a vacation just don’t set the right vibe at the office. Flip flops are cute, fun, easy-to-wear, and the best-selling footwear on the planet. But unless you work on the beach or as a lifeguard, they’re way too casual for work. Let’s keep it real, some people need to keep those feet covered.

8. Stiletto Heels

Bare legs and stiletto heels spell seduction, not serious business. Think they’re sexy? You’re right, they are — which makes them perfect for after hours, but completely inappropriate for work.

9. Slogan T-shirts

Love rock-and-roll, Elvis, or your neighborhood insurance company? Then say it with words, not on a t-shirt you wear to work. Not only are slogan t-shirts way too casual for the average office, their message often distracts from the business at hand.

10. Piercings In Odd Places

Nough said.

11. Jeans with holes all over

It’s not right for the office (even a casual one). Needless to say, holes and low-rise styles that reveal your underwear can leave everyone saying “Holy Cow”.

12. Don’t Go Logo Crazy

You want your busy boss to remember your name, not the name printed all over every inch of your body.

GUYS PLEASE DON’T…

Rock Leather Pants

Wearing leather to work will earn you compliments and credits — as long as it’s in the form of shoes, belts, and jackets. Leather pants, on the other hand, just make you look like a Mick Jagger wannabe (or worse yet, a gigolo). And that kind of bad judgement can make it hard for colleagues to trust you on joint projects.

Wear Jeans with holes all over

It’s not right for the office (even a casual one). Needless to say, holes and low-rise styles that reveal your underwear can leave everyone saying “Holy Cow”.

No Cowboy Boots whatsoever

Cowboy boots (along with cowboy hats) aren’t office attire. Under the right circumstances, these can be super sexy on a guy, but when you’re striking a professional pose, these won’t take you very far.

If you can stick to these rules then you should be fine. If you have any on the job fashion horror stories or would like to comment we would love to hear from you.

Will Barack Obama’s Inauguration Speech Live Up To High Expectations?

Posted in Urban News with tags , , , , , , , on January 16, 2009 by kinguvdastreet

Inaugural ceremony takes place on January 20, 2009

On Tuesday January 20, 2009 history will once again be made in Washington D.C. like never before. The soon to be first African American President Barack Obama will be sworn in as President of the United States of America. A competitor by nature, Obama will be stepping into the ring with history itself – squaring off against not only the public’s expectations for a voice-of-God moment, but also against the addresses that came before his. At the end of the Civil War, Lincoln spoke of unity. With the nation in an economic depression, Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to restore confidence. Feeding a renewed American spirit, John F. Kennedy ushered in the baby boom generation. One can only expect that Obama’s speech this Tuesday will be something similar that will attempt to instill confidence in the America people of better days to come.

Facing a global economic crisis, two wars and some of the highest expectations for a presidency in decades, Obama faces pressure in this one speech that is enough to make even the supremely confident own up to some serious nerves. The speech is expected to draw more than a million people to the National Mall and a huge World Wide TV viewing audience.  Can Obama pull it off? Judging by Obama’s track record, this Tuesday we may possibly hear one of the greatest speeches of all time.

Five Tips for Safe Online Shopping

Posted in Shopping tips with tags , , , , , , on January 12, 2009 by kinguvdastreet

Protect Yourself From Internet Scams and ID Theft

If you’re one of the million consumers that shop online, the listen up! Use your street smarts in the virtual marketplace and follow these basic online shopping tips to protect yourself and to ensure that your money doesn’t become part of the billion that merchants expect to lose to online fraud by spammers, scammers and shifty retailers.

Here are five tips for staying safe online:

1. Shop From a Secure PC

If possible, avoid using the family PC that your teens or children use to chat with their buddies and play games online. Those machines, especially if they’re a Microsoft Windows computer, are often already infested with spyware. An infected system will undermine all of the other precautions you might take to avoid online fraud.

Before you start shopping online, make sure your system is running with up-to-date anti-virus software, and that you’re using a firewall to block potential intruders. Just as important, be sure that your computer has the latest Microsoft software security updates installed.

2. Shop Smart, and Only at Sites You Know & Trust

Avoid search-engine shopping, which can often lead to random merchants you’ve never heard of. For the safest and most hassle-free online shopping experience, it’s best to stick with merchants you know and trust. Most importantly, make sure you have read and understand the merchant’s shipping and return policies before making any purchases.

Be sure to print a copy of each receipt or confirmation e-mail you receive. Keep all of your receipts in a folder and filed away in a safe place.

3. Shop with Your Credit Card

Most online merchants accept both credit and debit cards. Under federal law, credit card issuers can only hold customers liable for the first $50 of fraudulent transactions, and most issuers will waive even that amount. While debit card issuers have largely adopted that same approach, your bank account could be overdrawn while you dispute fraudulent charges, particularly if you don’t notice the fraud immediately. Experts say credit cards still present less potential for hassle when dealing with your financial institution should unauthorized charges show up later on a monthly statement. It’s still harder to get your money back from fraudulent transactions on a debit card unless the process is transacted in exactly the way the bank wants to be, and a lot of times consumers have no way of knowing whether a given purchase meets those requirements. Never, I repeat, never, shop at sites that ONLY offer you to wire your payment or send money orders. If they do offer these methods as a choice for the customer, that is fine as long as it is your decision to go that route.

4. Consider Alternative Payment Methods

For the truly fraud-wary online shopper, there are still plenty of alternatives to entering your account number at multiple Web sites. Many financial institutions and card issuers — including Bank Of America, Citibank, Discover and PayPal — offer customers the ability to generate unique, “virtual” or “one-time use” account numbers that are good for a single transaction or a handful of specified transactions only and cannot be reused.

While virtual account numbers may make shoppers feel safer online, they may be more hassle than they’re worth. These virtual numbers generally are there to protect [the card issuer] more than the consumer, but they do give some online shoppers more peace of mind. Studies show online shoppers are starting to turn to other alternative payment methods, such as pre-paid gift and credit cards.

5. Get a Handle on Spam

If you worry that giving away your e-mail address at multiple online merchants might wind up cluttering your inbox with more junk mail, consider creating a new address for each new Web site that requires you to enter one as part of the registration process. This allows you take action if a merchant you’re doing business with sells or rents your e-mail address to marketers. You don’t really need to create a brand new e-mail address for each site: Some free Webmail providers — most notably Google’s Gmail — will allow you to create as many “aliases” for the same e-mail address as you want. Here’s how it works. Let’s say your Gmail address is janedoe@gmail.com, and you’re being asked to enter an e-mail address at widgets.com as part of their online ordering process. Simply enter the name of the retailer as part your real e-mail address by using the “+” sign. In this case, you’d enter janedoe+widgets@gmail.com. That way, future communications from that retailer or any company that happens to share that particular marketing list will come addressed to janedoe+widgets@gmail.com. Later on, if a particular online merchant generates a wave of junk e-mail offers, you can create e-mail filters to automatically send all e-mail addressed to the custom address you created to the virtual trash bin. Many thanks to the Washington Post.
